Is there any mom out there who truly feels that she maintains a perfect balance between work and home? If so, she probably doesn’t need to read my new article, “Work-Life Balance” from the October issue of Peterborough, Northumberland and Lakeridge Kids…but I would still love to hear from her. If she exists.

In the article I also mention that parents who have to miss bedtime may want to try recordable books, so I thought I’d share a couple of specific titles. Hallmark has some great ones:

The Disney books, like “What Makes a Princess?” and “Lightning McQueen and His Winning Team” ($29.95)

"What Makes a Princess?" Hallmark Recordable Storybook

"Lightning McQueen" Hallmark Recordable Storybook
Or, in the reverse, you might want your child’s face and voice to travel with you, in which case you might want to have the little one record a message inside one if these:
“Kids Say The Cutest Things” or “Baby Talk” ($24.95):

Kids

Baby

Gotta go. My husband/daughters/students/family/friends/treadmill/blog/lesson plans/marking/writing project/bathtub are calling me. Who do you think will win?

Disclosure: I received a recordable storybook for review purposes as part of my role on the Hallmark Press Pause Panel.

  1. Love the article! Definitely a subject most parents struggle with. I think the key to balancing a career and home life, means allowing yourself not to feel any guilt. When I'm at work, I give 100% to my employer. When I'm at home,I give 100% to my family. It's more about quality time vs quantity time.

  2. fantastic article…i'm struggling big time with this now as my pre-schooler and my work is at major conflicts. i'm hoping i will see a light at the end of the tunnel soon enough. maybe a job change is teh first step.,

  3. Well Done Kate! You should go and publish your own book now. I'm sure everyone struggles with this issue. Thanks for the tips!

  4. Read your published article Kate and it was fantastic! Balancing my life is an issue I struggle with on a daily basis. If I have my work running smoothly I feel my home life is suffering…still working on how to balance everything!
